Perry was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback), her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Her parents, however, did not allow her to act until she turned an adult, for fear of the negative effects that stress could have on their daughter. Perry stated that she was too timid to perform during high school, but started doing shows in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring to the university from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved to New York in search of television roles. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness drove her to California in search of theater jobs. Perry was a part of Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. In the year 2015, she was with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry played a supporting role in the ABC political drama Scandal in which her father was the main character. She was also cast in the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger of Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother.
